If you are a detective in a movie, you need a bad guy to take down. If you are a "Rock and Roll Detective," you are fighting an evil record executive.

The executive in question was Julian Grendel, who was siphoning his own company's profits through bootlegging music. Considering what happened with Napster and music streaming only a few years later, perhaps Grendel was ahead of the curve.

Actually, saying that Wayne Newton (who played Grendel) was ahead of any musical curve just seems so wrong.
