This could be one of the most interesting Rap debates for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

A protégé of Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg was at one point not only the most famous rapper in the game but also the most respected.  The mid 90’s saw his signature drawling style all over the airwaves and it didn’t hurt that his style of Gansta Rap coincided with a murder charge (which he would be cleared of) giving him street credibility along with a famed name.  Future efforts would see Snoop shift away from his Gangsta roots, which while it didn’t sell as well as his first efforts it did show off a wider range than most fans would have thought possible.

Snoop’s Hall of Fame resume does run the risk of being seen by some as almost a caricature of himself.  His slang, his pimp look and his seeming willingness to do any offer on television or movies that comes his way might make him money but does add an unintentional comical aspect to his character that does not make him seem Hall of Fame worthy.

Regardless, it can never be forgotten just how big he was at one time and if Cleveland sees that as influential he has a decent shot.
