541. Mountain

Mountain has to be considered one of those bands whose lack of commercial success has to be considered a mystery. Filling a void of American Blues Based Hard Rock, Mountain had an aggressive sound and with stellar live performances to back it up, they probably should have been a much more successful band. They broke up only a few years after they started, but it isn’t impossible that the Hall would induct them based on Mississippi Queen and love for Leslie West. The Hall has inducted artists for a lot less than that!

325. Marianne Faithfull

Probably best known for her relationship with Mick Jagger and her severe drug addiction, Marianne Faithfull eventually emerged from the large shadow of the Rolling Stones to create music that showed she was nobody’s puppet. Ironically it was with her drug abused vocal chords that she actually found her “voice” and subsequently emerged as a true Rock and Roll poet. Certainly one who lived the Rock and Roll lifestyle, Faithfull has gone through heaven, hell and back again, and a trip to Cleveland would be a bit of both.

413. The Move

Another in the series of British bands that failed to become commercially viable in the States (though they were in England) the Move were in some ways like the “anti-British Invasion” as their music was an ironic take of the sound around them. The Move was a band that was always furthering their craft, and had elements of Progressive Rock and Art Rock in them. Should the Hall look to induct both Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood, the Hall could give them a nod but Lynne has a much greater shot with the Electric Light Orchestra, leaving Wood shut out.

74. The J. Geils Band

Although the J. Geils Band appeared as an overnight success in the early 80’s, they were anything but. After delivering a series of albums throughout the 1970’s that delivered a few minor hits, the J. Geils band found a good following in the North East but could not translate the energy of their live act to studio recordings or to the radio. When they did hit it big, they broke up shortly after, thus raising the question whether the overall body of work is Hall worthy. With two recent nominations and a perceived love from Jann Wenner, they could find themselves in.
