As many of you know, we at Notinhalloffame.com are slowly generating the top 50 of each major North American sports team. That being said, we have existing Top 50 lists and consistently look to update them when necessary and based on necessity. As such, we are delighted to present our post-2023 revision of our top 50 Green Bay Packers.

As for all of our top 50 players in football, we look at the following:

1.  Advanced Statistics.

2.  Traditional statistics and how they finished in the National Football League.

3.  Playoff accomplishments.

4.  Their overall impact on the team and other intangibles that are not reflected in a stat sheet.

Last year, the Packers returned to the playoffs but were a first-round exit.  Despite the success of the 2023 Season, the long tenure of the Packers did not give us a new entrant, though two players came close to joining the Top 50.  As such, there were no changes, but we always acknowledge that we looked at the previous year.

As always, we present our top five, which (obviously) saw no changes:

1. Aaron Rodgers
2. Brett Favre
3. Don Hutson
4. Forrest Gregg
5. Bart Starr

The joy that the New York Jets long-suffering fans felt on hearing that bona fide NFL legend Aaron Rodgers was heading to the MetLife Stadium was as palpable as it was understandable. It gave the team’s supporters hope of ending a nightmare run of form, but what happened next must have felt like a crushing blow to all concerned.

The four-time NFL MVP suffered an injury on just his fourth snap and has not played since.

And this led to his replacement, Zach Wilson, being forced into the limelight, and things have not panned out so well. Jets fans will have been excited by Rodgers’s arrival, so much so that they may well have felt like placing a bet on New York to make a concerted impact this season, perhaps even reaching the postseason and maybe deep into it.

On the decision to use Boyle, Rodgers commented;

"We need a spark, and obviously this was the decision that was made,"

"I feel for Zach. I love Zach. Zach's such a great kid, and I do think he still has a bright future in the league. This has been a tough go for all of us. A lot of times in these situations, there's certain guys that have got to be the scapegoat. I think there's enough blame to go around a number of different positions. If you have 10 guys doing it right on a play and one guy not, it's hard to be efficient."

The Jets have now lost four on the bounce, with their latest defeat, a 13-34 home defeat to the Miami Dolphins, leaving Robert Saleh’s side at 4-7 and seemingly out of the running to make anything tangible out of this season.

A couple of weeks ago, before recent defeats, many Jets fans and pundits were talking up a possible Rodgers return to aid their playoff push. That seems less relevant now, but the former Super Bowl winner still wants to get back on the field of play as soon as possible.

His recovery from an Achilles injury has been fairly speedy, and Rodgers has set his own goals in terms of a return, stating,

"I've said that I'd love to be trending towards practicing by my birthday," Rodgers said, and for the record, the quarterback turns 40 on December 2nd.

On whether his desire to return has been diminished by what might prove a somewhat irrelevant series of games, Rodgers was emphatic,

"No, not at all,"

"I find those two are mutually exclusive. The speed at which I'm doing the rehab has been the same from the beginning -- push it as hard as we can every single day."

On whether he’s been in contact with Jets’ staff on his progress from his Los Angeles rehab facility, Rodgers added,

"Yeah, I like to keep in touch with the guys and let them know what my progress is,"

"I just sent a couple of the boys a video of me on the treadmill. They're interested in my rehab and where I'm at."

The 2023 National Football League Season begin tonight, and we are ready with our revised list of the top 150 active (or hoping to be) players based on their existing Hall of Fame resume.

A quick synopsis shows that we have the following:

19 Quarterbacks are ranked, including a brand new number one overall, Aaron Rodgers, now of the New York Jets. Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes rocketed to #10 and Russell Wilson of the Denver Broncos regresses to #11.

Only 12 Running Backs are ranked, with no player in the top 25 overall. The surprising top player at this position is Alvin Kamara of New Orleans.

Wide Receivers are more represented with 21 on the list. Julio Jones is the only one in the top ten (we still rank Free Agents who we think have a shot to return) with three others in (#18 Tyreek Hill, #20 DeAndre Hopkins and #24 Davante Adams) in the top 25.

Only 5 Tight Ends are ranked with Travis Kelce at #7.

22 Offensive Lineman are on the list, including three players in the top ten (#6 Zack Martin, #8 Trent Williams and #9 Jason Peters). There are two other players in the top 25 with Jason Kelce (#12) and Tyron Smith (#16).

On the defensive side, there are 23 Defensive Lineman, led by the Rams’ Aaron Donald, who is ranked #2 overall. Other Defensive Lineman in the top 25 are #17 Cameron Jordan, #19 Calais Campbell and #25 Ndamukong Suh.

With the Linebackers, we have the only position where there are two in the top five, which are Seattle’s Bobby Wagner and Buffalo’s Von Miller who are #3 and #4 respectively. There are 19 overall, and two more in the top 25, #14 Khalil Mack and #15 T.J. Watt.

There are 13 Cornerbacks who are ranked, led by Patrick Peterson of the Steelers at #13. There is one other Cornerback in the top 25 with Jalen Ramsey at #23.

At the Safety position, there are 12 who are ranked, but it takes you all the way to #63 (Minkah Fitzpatrick) before we see our first one.

There are five Special Teams players, led by Ravens Place Kicker, Justin Tucker at #23.

Last year, the Packers had a disappointing season, with a Quarterback who seemed to be the source of conjecture. Saying that, the numbers for said pivot kept compiling and we had a huge decision to make…and we did.

As always, we present our top five, which had a major change at the top.

Rodgers supplanted Favre at the top spot, and the overall statistical difference (even with era comparison) proved to big to ignore. The chasm will not grow, as Rodgers begins 2023 with the New York Jets, and Green Bay now enters the Jordan Love period).

Aaron Rodgers isn’t a man who holds back, and it’s perhaps why he’s so evident in the public eye, perhaps more so than anyone else in the NFL. When the Green Bay Packers star talks, there’s always a microphone ready to amplify his message. The veteran quarterback can also be viciously amusing, and it’s clear that he has the respect of his team-mates, both past, and present.

In a light-hearted interview, Rodgers echoed previous comments made by Davante Adams when he responded to the return of Allen Lazard after he missed off-season duty as a way to force the issue on a new contract, the 38-year-old joked;

"I mean, it's always tough going from Hall of Famer to Hall of Famer,"

This was a direct response to Adams discussing now working with Derek Carr at the Las Vegas Raiders, having previously had the pleasure of receiving passes from Rodgers for the best part of eight years.

Rodgers is always ready to put himself into the action and to be fair, he is a big part of Green Bay and is pretty much the unofficial spokesman for a team he has represented with honor for 17 seasons.

It’s now 12 years since Rodgers picked up his sole Super Bowl championship and arguably a second, if well overdue. You can’t fault the efforts of the outspoken QB; he has, after all, been named the NFL MVP for two seasons in a row and four times in total.

The departure of Adams may harm such hopes, and the connection that Rodgers had with the 29-year-old wide receiver was palpable. This didn’t stop him from turning down a new Packers deal and instead took a five-year offer from the Raiders said to be worth over $141 million.

The reasons for the move were not just financial as Adams was keen to connect again with Carr, who was a college team-mate back in Fresno State. 

Now Rodgers needs Lazard to step up, and the 26-year-old certainly upped his game in 2021, collecting eight touchdown passes, a total that was more than his previous two completed seasons combined.  

Aaron Rodgers turned up for training camp in an outfit that was instantly compared to that worn by Nicolas Cage in Con-Air, and while such a move is classic Rodgers behavior, it’s always important to remember, if it was not already abundantly clear, that while the 10-time Pro Bowl pick is always ready to crack a joke (even at his own expense), there are few NFL players that take the game as seriously as Aaron Rodgers.

Aaron Rodgers captured his fourth MVP, and while he did not win a second Super Bowl in 2021, he had an outstanding season, statistically positioning himself as the Quarterback who will eclipse Brett Favre.  He moved from #3 to #2, overtaking first ballot Hall of Famer, Don Hutson.

Wide Receiver, Davante Adams, who was traded to Las Vegas in the off-season, debuts at #40, following his second straight First Team All-Pro.

Aaron Rodgers went into the 2021/22 NFL campaign as the reining MVP after a stellar year last season. At one point in the off-season, his future in Green Bay looked uncertain. However, off-field disputes were resolved just in time for the new campaign.

Rodgers continues to play at the top of his game and a fourth regular season MVP could be set to go his way. The Packers QB has led his side to a 10-3 win record through their opening 13 games of the season.

Green Bay are looking set to be one of the top seeds in the NFC heading into the playoffs. The NFC North crown looks safe, as the Packers are the only team in the division with a winning record.

Arguably his biggest strength is the way he looks after the ball. He has finished the league leader in touchdowns-to-interceptions ratio five times.

The Green Bay man has recorded 433 regular season touchdowns and has thrown for over 50,000 passing yards. He will have seen what Brady has been able to achieve into his 40s and if he can continue at that age, he may be set to smash many NFL records.

Green Bay Haven’t Reached Super Bowl Since 2010

Although it is not going to impact his inclusion in the Hall of Fame, Rodgers has only won the Super Bowl once in his career. That victory came in 2010 when his side beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-25 at the Cowboys Stadium.

In what may be his last year in Wisconsin, the Green Bay QB will be hoping to deliver another Vince Lombardi Trophy to his franchise. Becoming a two-time Super Bowl winner will help the reining MVP elevate himself into an exclusive club of QBs who have prevailed in the biggest game in the sport more than once.

Rodgers will be focussed on finishing this season strongly. If he does get awarded the MVP at the NFL Honors in February, he will be one of only two players to land that prize four times after Peyton Manning.

The top five remains unaltered from our last rank and there are no new entries, however, there were two significant changes overall.

Quarterback, Aaron Rodgers inched up from #7 to #6.  Offensive Lineman, David Bahktiari, debuts at #37.  It was an oversight on our part not to have had Bahktiari enter the list in our last revision.

We are excited here at Notinhalloffame.com that we are unveiling a new section, which looks at the top active players in the big four of sports and how they are positioned at the start of each seasons in regards to Hall of Fame credentials.

We are beginning with Pro Football, and how perfect is that considering the seasons kicks off this week.  Rather than list everyone directly, we have isolated them based on their position and with the exception of Special Teams, we have created a new stat based on the last five modern players (not senior inductees) of their respective position and how the current player compares with that.

This will be updated annually, so this 100 was finalized this week. We will not be updating again until the end of the season.

The last batch of rounds around the sun has been fascinating for Aaron Rodgers.  

Rodgers, who has dated Olivia Munn, Danica Patrick, and Shailene Woodley, was even considered the permanent host of Jeopardy.  It looked like he would cross over into non-sports stardom, but that came crashing down, and he has been involved in more Hollywood feuds (see Jimmy Kimmel) and was thrust into the culture war when it was revealed that he did not get the COVID-19 vaccine and espoused conspiracy theories.  He became much less marketable than he used to be, and there are circles where he is high atop the list of the most hated athletes.  Last season, he was injured on the first drive with his new team, the New York Jets, and speculation has run wild that age has caught up to him.

None of this will matter.

Whether or not any voter dislikes Rodgers or not, no active player has the statistical resume that he has.  If he is healthy, he will continue to climb the stat ladder (he is 33 TDs behind Brett Favre for fourth), and a 3,500 Yard year leaps him over Dan Marino, Matt Ryan, and Phillip Rivers for sixth all-time.  No multi-time MVP has ever failed to enter Canton, and he has four.  Throw in the Super Bowl, and it is an open-and-shut case, regardless of what happens next.
