American Dreamz was a clear satire of American Idol and reality shows in general, and if you have a fake reality show, you need a fake reality show host. Since the show was American, the host had to be British!

Enter, Martin Tweed (Hugh Grant), who was the host of American Dreamz who was cocky, arrogant, and despised himself. In the movie, he would wind up sleeping with the star talent of the season (Sally Kendoo), and due to the magic of film plots, he is killed by Sally's ex-lover who came back from Afghanistan.
