Is Poker a sport? Lord knows it is on late night sports television enough, so for arguments sake, let’s say it is. If so, than Mike McDermott (Matt Damon) is a greats sports champion who went through the proper paces that you expect from a great athlete.
Consider:
He rose through the ranks as a young prodigy
He suffered a severe loss to an older opponent (Teddy KGB)
He retired, and was forced back in
Despite the pressure from his friend (Worm) he kept playing clean
He defeated KGB to avenge his loss at the end of the movie.
