3. Shania Twain

Being raised in a small Canadian town doesn’t give off the idea that someone will become a worldwide country music star, but that is exactly what happened. Not only one of the biggest country stars of all time, but one of the biggest stars of any genre, Shania helped change the game for country music in the 1990s. Her album “Come On Over” sold more copies by itself than most artists sell in their entire careers (over 40 million copies, and it remains the best selling country album of all time, the best selling album by a Canadian of all time, and the best selling studio album by a female artist of any genre). Traditional country audiences might not be huge fans of hers because of the large number of pop sounds she brought into her songs, but her sales and influence on the genre as a whole cannot be denied. Her first album in 1993 was a failure, but once she connected up with rock producer Mutt Lange, they were unstoppable. Over the course of her career, she truly only has 3 albums that hold all of her success. But those 3 albums alone make her one of the best-selling artists of all time in any genre, and forever a legend in the music world.

Hello everyone!

As you know, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced the Class of 2018, which features Bon Jovi, Dire Straits, The Cars, Nina Simone, The Moody Blues and Sister Rosetta Tharpe. They will be removed from Notinhalloffame.com Rock and Roll list and now we are working on our next rendition.

The list is impacted annually by your votes and comments and we have seen in the past your input move an artist almost 100 spots. This year will be no exception.

Now we already have a Futures section reflecting those who are eligible for the next vote in December but we thought we would take the time to ask all of you where you think the following musicians deserve to be ranked by us.

Our first inkling is that of the new eligible artists none of them stand out as a first ballot entry. Frankly we are not sure that any of them are Top 50 worthy.

We certainly have some ideas, and we will be taking into consideration the votes that you have already given on each artist’s respective page in the futures section. However, we thought it prudent to ask all of you again here your thoughts about the potential rankings for the following:

AFI

Aimee Mann

Bjork

Blink-182

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony

Built to Spill

Collective Soul

Counting Crows

Dave Matthews Band

DMX

Elastica

Everclear

Frank Black

Grant Lee Buffalo

Liz Phair

Rancid

The Roots

Shania Twain

Sheryl Crow

Snoop Dogg

Toni Braxton

We look forward to hearing any insight you may have!

299. Shania Twain

Shania Twain may not be thought of us a Rock Star, but often it is hard to really peg her as a Country Star either.  Shania Twain was at her best when she ventured into Pop with a Country flavor and as such she became a massive figure in popular music.  Her success was so big that she despite not having recorded any material in over a decade she could still do an arena tour today without supporting a new album.  She inspired many a crossover artist.  It may not be Rock impact, but it is an impact on popular music.  People have gotten into the Hall for less than that.
