A late round pick by the Los Angeles Kings in 1993, Kimmo Timonen continued to play in his native Finland for a few years, but when he decided to try his luck in the NHL it was with the Nashville Predators, who traded for his rights.

The Defenseman split his first North American year between Nashville and their AHL affiliate, Milwaukee, but Timonen proved a commodity worth keeping at the top level of pro hockey.  After a pair of respectable seasons, Timonen put forth three consecutive 40 Points seasons, culminating with his first All-Star Game in 2004.

The NHL locked out their players in the 2004-05 due to a labor disagreement, but Timonen’s skills continued to improve.  When play resumed, Timonen had his first 50-Point Season, which he followed up with what would be his career-best 55 Points in 2006-07.  Timonen would go to his second All-Star Game, and was fifth in Norris voting.

Timonen’s stay in Nashville ended when the Preds traded him and Scott Hartnell for a 2007 First Round Pick, who turned out to be Jonathon Blum, who never played a game in the NHL.  In 2015, his final NHL year in the NHL, Timonen aided Chicago in winning a Stanley Cup.

As a Predator, Timonen scored 301 Points in 579 Games.

Kimmo Timonen began his career with the Nashville Predators where he was a two-time All-Star.  In 2007, Timonen and Scott Hartnell were traded to Philadelphia for a First Round Pick, who would never make it to NHL.  It is easy to see who won this trade.

Timonen went to his third All-Star Game in his first year as a Flyer, and did so again in 2012.  Timonen had three 40-Point seasons with Philly, with another three cracking the 30-Point threshold.  While he never finished in the top ten in Norris voting as a Flyer, he did receive votes in three of his years, and he was considered one of the top Defensemen for the Flyers during his tenure, which ended in 2014.

Timonen scored 270 Points of his 571 career Points in Philadelphia.

Thank you as always from us at Notinhalloffame.com.
Amongst the congratulations of the Chicago Blackhawks a special one from here at Notinhalloffame.com goes to Kimmo Timonen, a Finnish born defender who is retiring as a Stanley Cup Champion.

Debuting with the Nashville Predators in 1998, Timonen would steadily improve his play and would become an average half a point per game scorer and make his first All Star Game in 2004.  His best season, his final one with the Preds, saw him reach fifth place in Norris Trophy voting.

Timonen would be traded to the Flyers and still maintain a solid two way attack and would make his first Stanley Cup Final albeit in a losing effort to Chicago, the team he would join last year and finally earn a Stanley Cup Ring after 1,108 NHL Games.

The Defenceman would also represent his native Finland on the international stage earning a Silver and three Bronze medals at the Olympics and three Silvers at the World Championships.  He was also a member of the second place team at the 2004 World Cup of Hockey.

While we are not sure that he is a Hall of Famer, he will be on our list once eligible.

We here at Notinhalloffame.com would like to thank Kimmo Timonen for his career on the ice and wish him the best in what comes next!

145. Kimmo Timonen

One of the more successful Finnish players in professional hockey history, Kimmo Timonen is one of the few players in the National Hockey League to accrue over 1,100 Games.  A Stay-at-home blueliner, Timonen represented Finland Internationally multiple times which resulted in four Olympic medals.  Timonen is also a Stanley Cup Champion, which occurred in his final pro game with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2015.  Not a bad way to finish a professional hockey career.
