gold star for USAHOF

Yes, we know that this is taking a while!

As many of you know, we at Notinhalloffame.com are slowly generating the top 50 of each major North American sports team. That being said, we have existing Top 50 lists and consistently look to update them when necessary and based on necessity. As such, we are delighted to present our post-2023 revision of our top 50 Seattle Seahawks.

As for all of our top 50 players in football, we look at the following:

1.  Advanced Statistics.

2.  Traditional statistics and how they finished in the National Football League.

3.  Playoff accomplishments.

4.  Their overall impact on the team and other intangibles that are not reflected in a stat sheet.

Last year, the Seahawks had a winning 9-8 record, but that was not enough to get them into the playoffs.  The 2023 season saw two elevations and one new entrant.

As always, we present our top five, which saw a change at number two:

1. Russell Wilson
2. Bobby Wagner
3. Steve Largent
4. Walter Jones
5. Cortez Kennedy

You can find the entire list here.

Wagner, who returned for one season in 2023, did more than enough to take over the second spot.

Wide Receiver Tyler Lockett went up three spots to #26.

The only new entry is Wide Receiver D.K. Metcalf, who debuts at #47.

We thank you for your continued support of our lists on Notinhalloffame.com.

Marshawn Lynch, who is eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame next year, received an endorsement from a player who knows him very well; Quarterback, Russell Wilson.

The duo won Super Bowl 48 together with the Seattle Seahawks, and were on the losing side of following contest on a controversial play call where Wilson threw an interception that ended the game.  If there were any hard feelings between the two, that has not extended to Wilson’s respect for Lynch, who recently said on the I Am Athlete Podcast, that his former backfield partner in Canton worthy:

“To me, he (Marshawn) should be a Hall of Fame football player. You know what he meant to Seattle, what he meant to our team, and what he meant to me. I wouldn't be as great as I am without him, watching him and observing him and also vice versa, just how hard he worked”

Lynch played most of his career with Seattle, and rushed for 10,413 Rushing Yards, 85 Rushing Touchdowns and had 2,214 Receiving Yards and 9 Receiving Touchdowns.  He also went to five Pro Bowls, was a First Team All-Pro, and twice led the league in Rushing Touchdowns.

While there are other Running Backs who are Hall of Fame eligible who have more Rushing Yards and Yards From Scrimmage than Lynch, they do not have the same cultural impact, nor the big game moments that “Beast Mode” had.

Coincidentally, we will be working next month on our Notinhalloffame.com list on the football players who are worthy of PFHOF consideration, and Lynch will be ranked among them.

As the 2023 NFL season wraps up, attention in Denver turns to the future of Russell Wilson, the nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback. With the Denver Broncos' recent decision to bench Wilson for their final games of the season, rumors are swirling around the league about whether he is going to leave the franchise. Following a significant trade that brought Wilson to Denver only two years ago, the looming uncertainty paints a complex picture of his future. While Wilson indicated this week he is open to returning to Denver, the chances are higher that the quarterback will be in a different uniform next season.

This article explores potential scenarios for Wilson in 2024, considering teams like the New England Patriots, the Las Vegas Raiders, and others as potential landing spots.

Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders present an intriguing option for Wilson. Financially, they must navigate a delicate situation. Their need to move on from Jimmy Garoppolo, an expensive backup quarterback, implies a substantial dead money consequence. Equally, Wilson's high salary could be a deterrent. However, if Wilson becomes a free agent, this dynamic might change.

Wilson has proven to be a reliable quarterback throughout this season, ranking in the top half of the league in completion percentage, passing yards, and touchdowns. Although not quite at his Pro Bowl best, this performance level still marks him as a starting-caliber player. If the Raiders cannot draft their desired quarterback, and if Wilson is open to a reduced salary, he could compete with Aidan O’Connell for the starting position.

However, the Raiders also need to invest strongly in the future. They have long relied on experienced, aging quarterbacks who need to invest strongly, and it is time for them to reset their timeline with a younger player. Drafting a quarterback seems the best approach for the Raiders, and it may not be in their best interest to acquire another veteran quarterback on a downward trajectory.

It will be fascinating to see how the future FanDuel TNF betting odds might change with any potential move of Wilson to the Raiders.

Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings also present a viable destination for Russell Wilson. With Kirk Cousins' contract expiring at the end of this season and his future with the team uncertain, the Vikings may be in the market for a new quarterback. If Cousins chooses to sign elsewhere, the Vikings might consider drafting a high-end talent and signing a bridge quarterback to allow the draft pick time to develop. Wilson could be a fitting choice in this scenario, given his experience and proven record.

However, Wilson's potential fit with the Vikings is not without obstacles. If Cousins decides to stay, this discussion becomes moot, as the team would likely be unable to entertain the idea of adding Wilson. Also, the financial implications of signing Wilson could be a deterrent. If Wilson demands a contract in line with Garoppolo, who signed a three-year, $72.5 million contract with the Raiders in March, the Vikings may be hesitant. Paying such a high wage for a short-term solution may not align with their plans, especially if they consider drafting a quarterback.

Another factor to consider is Vikings' coach Kevin O'Connell's preference for a quarterback with a strong short and mid-range passing game, skills currently under scrutiny in Wilson's game. Wilson's future with the Vikings is far from certain, and the upcoming off-season will reveal whether a move to Minnesota is in the cards.

New England Patriots

The Patriots emerge as another potential suitor for Wilson. Assuming the team is ready to move on from Mac Jones, the Patriots need a quarterback and might see Wilson as a valuable asset. Despite his age, Wilson's experience and proven track record could appeal to Bill Belichick if he remains in a decision-making role. Before their recent matchup, which the Patriots won, Belichick had admired Wilson, indicating a potential interest.

However, the Patriots might also be looking at the long game. Given they pick No. 3 in the upcoming draft, it could be financially sensible for them to draft a quarterback, thereby securing talent on a rookie contract. Furthermore, at 35, Wilson might not fit the Patriots' desire for a long-term quarterback, particularly if Belichick is not at the helm to make the decisions. Therefore, while Wilson could be a viable short-term solution, the Patriots' final decision will hinge on their broader strategy for the upcoming season.

The 2023 National Football League Season begin tonight, and we are ready with our revised list of the top 150 active (or hoping to be) players based on their existing Hall of Fame resume.

This is our fourth pre-season monitor, and you can find it all here.

A quick synopsis shows that we have the following:

19 Quarterbacks are ranked, including a brand new number one overall, Aaron Rodgers, now of the New York Jets. Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes rocketed to #10 and Russell Wilson of the Denver Broncos regresses to #11.

Only 12 Running Backs are ranked, with no player in the top 25 overall. The surprising top player at this position is Alvin Kamara of New Orleans.

Wide Receivers are more represented with 21 on the list. Julio Jones is the only one in the top ten (we still rank Free Agents who we think have a shot to return) with three others in (#18 Tyreek Hill, #20 DeAndre Hopkins and #24 Davante Adams) in the top 25.

Only 5 Tight Ends are ranked with Travis Kelce at #7.

22 Offensive Lineman are on the list, including three players in the top ten (#6 Zack Martin, #8 Trent Williams and #9 Jason Peters). There are two other players in the top 25 with Jason Kelce (#12) and Tyron Smith (#16).

On the defensive side, there are 23 Defensive Lineman, led by the Rams’ Aaron Donald, who is ranked #2 overall. Other Defensive Lineman in the top 25 are #17 Cameron Jordan, #19 Calais Campbell and #25 Ndamukong Suh.

With the Linebackers, we have the only position where there are two in the top five, which are Seattle’s Bobby Wagner and Buffalo’s Von Miller who are #3 and #4 respectively. There are 19 overall, and two more in the top 25, #14 Khalil Mack and #15 T.J. Watt.

There are 13 Cornerbacks who are ranked, led by Patrick Peterson of the Steelers at #13. There is one other Cornerback in the top 25 with Jalen Ramsey at #23.

At the Safety position, there are 12 who are ranked, but it takes you all the way to #63 (Minkah Fitzpatrick) before we see our first one.

There are five Special Teams players, led by Ravens Place Kicker, Justin Tucker at #23.

As always, we thank you for your support of the site and look for more improvements, content and lists in the future.

Yes, we know that this is taking a while!

As many of you know, we here at Notinhalloffame.com are slowly generating the 50 of each major North American sports team. That being said, we have existing Top 50 lists out and we always consistently look to update them when we can and based on necessity. As such, we are very happy to present our post 2022 revision of our top 50 Seattle Seahawks.

As for all of our top 50 players in football we look at the following:

1. Advanced Statistics.

2. Traditional statistics and how they finished in the National Football League.

3. Playoff accomplishments.

4. Their overall impact on the team and other intangibles not reflected in a stat sheet.

Last year, Seattle shocked the NFL by making it to the playoffs in a year that they were supposed to be in full rebuilding mode. There were no new entrants in the Top 50, and only one elevation based on the 2022 Season.

As always, we present our top five, which was not affected by the last season:

1. Russell Wilson

2. Steve Largent

3. Bobby Wagner

4. Walter Jones

5. Cortez Kennedy

You can find the entire list here.

The only change was Wide Receiver, Tyler Lockett, who advanced three spots to #29.

We welcome your input and comments and as always, we thank you for your support.

As many of you know, we here at Notinhalloffame.com are slowly generating the 50 of each major North American sports team.  That being said, we have existing Top 50 lists out and we always consistently look to update them when we can and based on necessity.  As such, we are very happy to present our pre-2021 revision of our top 50 Seattle Seahawks of all-time.

As for all of our top 50 players in football we look at the following:

1.  Advanced Statistics.

2.  Traditional statistics and how they finished in the NFL.

3.  Playoff accomplishments.

4.  Their overall impact on the team and other intangibles not reflected in a stat sheet.

This is our first revision after our inaugural unveiling, with only three elevations, though it reflects twice in our top five.  There are no new entries.

As always, we present our top five here.

1. Russell Wilson

2. Walter Jones

3. Steve Largent

4. Bobby Wagner

5. Cortez Kennedy

Wilson moved up from #3, surpassing Jones and Largent.  We now consider the Quarterback the best Seahawk of all-time.  Wagner was #5 on our last list, and passed fellow defensive star, Kennedy.

Wide Receiver, Tyler Lockett climbed up three spots to #42.

We welcome your input and commentsand as always, we thank you for your support.

Russell Wilson was the 2008 ACC Rookie of the Year, and four years later, he was the NFL Rookie of the Year with the Seahawks, who had drafted him in the Third Round that year.

2023 Pre-Season Rank #10, 2022 Pre-Season Rank #10, 2021 Pre-Season Rank #17, 2020 Pre-Season Rank #19. (Peak Period: 2016-20)

The Russell Wilson era in Seattle ended after a Super Bowl win and nine Pro Bowls, but what if Marshawn Lynch ran on that play (you all know which one!) and departed Emerald City as a two-time Super Bowl Champion?  That likely would make him a Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, but his two years in Denver were disastrous and gave post-Philadelphia Donovan McNabb vibes.  This has dropped his rank, and though he has a change of scenery in Pittsburgh, there is a very competent quarterback in Justin Fields who will quickly takeover if the Steelers struggle.  The narrative on Wilson has not changed for the better over the last 24 months.
