The Rock and Roll Hall of Fane has announced the Finalists for the 2025 Class, and as always they did do in random fashion, with an announcement the day before that always changes.
The nominees are:
Bad Company. Eligible since 2000, never nominated. Ranked #23 on Notinhalloffame.com. This is a long time coming for Paul Rodgers, whose band has huge support for the Rock Hall.
The Black Crowes. Eligible since 2016, never nominated. Ranked #240 on Notinhalloffame.com. The Black Crowes netted their first nomination and were outliers in their time.
Chubby Checker. Eligible since 1986, never nominated. Ranked #280 on Notinhalloffame.com. Nobody waited longer than Checker, who receives his first nomination after being eligible for the entire duration of the Hall’s existence.
Joe Cocker. Eligible since 1995, never nominated. Ranked #34 on Notinhalloffame.com. Cocker is another who waited a long time to finally gain a nomination.
Billy Idol. Eligible since 2007, never nominated. Ranked #118 on Notinhalloffame.com. The prince of pop-punk secures his first nomination after 18 years.
Mana. Eligible since 2013, never nominated. Unranked on Notinhalloffame.com. Who? Bluntly, they were never on our radar but this Mexican group is massively popular and can fill to this day arenas across the United States.
OutKast. Eligible since 2019, never nominated. Ranked #40 on Notinhalloffame.com. Southern Hip Hop looks to enter the Hall for the first time, and who better than Outkast to spearhead it.
Phish. Eligible since 2016, never nominated. Ranked #131 on Notinhalloffame.com. Could Phish become the next jam band to enter the Hall?
Mariah Carey. Eligible since 2016, nominated in 2024. Ranked #130 on Notinhalloffame.com. Carey is on the ballot for the second straight year.
New Order/Joy Division. Eligible since 2004, nominated in 2023. Ranked separately on Notinhalloffame at #5 and #11 respectively. The Hall is trying it again by combining the two groups. This is not unprecedented as they indicted the Small Faces/The Faces together.
Cyndi Lauper: Eligible since 2009, nominated in 2023. Ranked #105 on Notinhalloffame.com. Lauper is nominated for the second time, and sees a ballot with only one other female act.
Oasis: Eligible since 2024, nominated in 2024. Ranked #3 on Notinhalloffame.com. Oasis is on the ballot for the second straight year, and would that not be fun to hear a Gallagher brothers acceptance speech!
The White Stripes: Eligible since 2023, nominated in 2023. Ranked #6 on Notinhalloffame.com. Jack and Meg White return to the ballot, and look to be fixtures until they are inducted.
Soundgarden: Eligible since 2012, nominated in 2020 & 2023. Ranked #19 on Notinhalloffame.com. This is the third kick at the can for the Grunge act.
It is unknown when the Rock Hall will announce the 2025 Class, but we would like to congratulate those who were nominated.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced their 2024 Nominees, which if we had a million tries, we never would have guessed this group. It is completely different than what we have seen in the past, and (taking this from a personal point of view as the Chairman of the Site) I don’t know whether this makes me happy or not. There is a plethora of first-time nominees, many of whom have never been nominated, and it is nice to see different acts get a shot, but with this group, we have no artist whose peak began before the 70s that are here. Is that window closed? There are also no punk acts, and I can’t remember the last time that happened.
Also, is this a reaction to Jann Wenner’s New York Times comments that got him excommunicated from his own creation.
As Arsenio used to say, “Things that make you go…Hmmmm”
Let’s look at the 15 nominees.
A Tribe Called Quest: Eligible since 2015, this might be the most predictable nominee as they were nominated the previous two years.
Cher: A few months ago, Cher was on the Kelly Clarkson Show ripping on the Rock Hall and stating that she would never accept induction. So, what do they do? They nominate her for the first time after being eligible since 1991. Bluntly, what is more Rock and Roll than telling them off?
Dave Matthews Band: The beloved jam band received their second nomination, with their first coming in 2020.
Eric B. & Rakim: Somehow, this nomination was already leaked, which is the first to my recollection. The hip hop duo has been eligible since 2012, the same year they received their first nomination.
Foreigner: Arena Rock bands have a hard time gaining a nomination, but often when they get one, they get inducted. This is their first nomination after being eligible since 2003.
Janes Addiction: Receiving their second nomination (their first was in 2017), the body of work is not huge, but the legacy is.
Kool and the Gang: Finally! It took 29 years for the group to get its first nomination, but sadly there are few of them left.
Lenny Kravitz: Kravitz is also another first-time nominee, and has been eligible since 2015. He has a tough road ahead in this group.
Mariah Carey: Does Whitney’s induction pave the way for Mariah? It should, and if we look at commercial success, there is no better candidate than this. Eligible since 2016, this is her first nomination.
Mary J. Blige: Blige is now a two-time nominee (her first was 2021), but like the last time, she faces a very tough ballot for her.
Oasis: The kings of Brit-Pop are finally here, and arguably they should have been on their first year of eligibility in 2020. The Gallaghers giving a speech together? As unlikely as that is, it would be money.
Ozzy Osbourne: Already in with Black Sabbath, Ozzy receives his first solo nomination. He has been eligible since 2006.
Peter Frampton: Best known for his album, “Frampton Comes Alive”, Frampton receives his first nomination after 24 years of eligibility.
Sade: Another first-time nominee, Sade has been eligible since 2010, but this is a very hard ballot for her with the high amount of women on the ballot, who all arguably have higher profiles.
Sinead O’Connor: O’Connor passed away last year and was never nominated when she was alive. Her first year of eligibility was 2013.
We here at Notinhalloffame.com would like to congratulate the artists who have made it as Finalists for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
When you consider the choice of the best love songs from various artists, it is natural to come up with the ones written by outstanding songwriters nominated in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Since it is known that the 51st Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala postponed till June 2022, we have time to identify the best date night songs from artists who have made great contributions and honored for induction in the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Music and Love – the Best Combination
Everyone knows that music has the power to influence love in rather important ways. It can help set the mood, say what you cannot on your own, and do so much more. Music really is the best combination for helping people get closer. And it's really a talent to write not just a catchy song but to develop a thoughtful, meaningful piece of music. For that reason, along with lustylocals users who are focused on romance, we're going to pick out recognized incredible love songs by songwriters announced last year as one of the inductees into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Mariah Carey
Always Be My Baby is one of Mariah's biggest hits that is still played on the radio today. The song is not merely a catchy tune, but it also demonstrates her vocal strength and ability to construct a beautiful, meaningful song with lyrics such as "You'll always be a part of me, I'm part of you indefinitely."
Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart (Eurythmics)
While Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)is not necessarily a song directly about love, it has been interpreted that way throughout the years. It talks about how some relationships are helpful, and others use people. The song has a funky synth beat, too, and it deserves to be immortalized.
Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo (The Neptunes)
Together, the pair wrote the song U Don't Have to Call, which was then performed by Usher. The lyrics include: "You don't have to call/It's okay, girl/'Cause I'ma be alright tonight," which shows a man moving on from a relationship even though it appears tough.
The Isley Brothers
One of the most popularsongs of the early 1970s, The Isley Brothers' That Ladyis about a man obsessed with a woman, but she rebuffs his advances, and he decides to "keep on keepin' on" and move onto the next part of his life.
Steve Miller
I Love You is incredibly simple and whimsical song, demonstrating the light, airy feelings that love can inspire so perfectly that it stands out from the rest of the album.
Rick Nowels
Nowels co-wrote the song White Flagwith Dido and Rollo Armstrong. The song is about the end of a relationship and how one person can't move on while the other seems to have come to grips with it. The song perfectly encapsulates the desperation that one feels when something important has ended, but you can't give up with the line, "But I will go down with this ship/And I won't put my hands up and surrender."
William "Mickey" Stevenson
He wrote I'll Always Love Youfor The Spinners, and the song was very loving with lines, "Sometimes a man/Has too much pride to see/But losing your love, my darling/Has opened my eyes for me."
It is clear that some bands and people belong in the Songwriters Hall of Fame, even if they didn't sing the song themselves. In this case, the love songs outlined here are transformative and indicate special individuals that made a real difference with their works.
Didn’t we just write this?
We did, but The Songwriters Hall of Fame has announced that they will be postponing their induction for the Class of 2020 until 2021, specifically on June 10, 2021 in New York City. The announcement came today from SHOF Chairman, Nile Rodgers.
The Class of 2020 comprises Mariah Carey, Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart (The Eurythmics), The Isley Brothers, Steve Miller, Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo (The Neptunes), Rick Nowels, William Stevenson, Paul Williams and Jody Gerson.
It is not known at this time whether there will be an additional class in 2021, or whether that will be cancelled in its own right to focus on this group.
