Yes, we know that this is taking a while! As many of you know, we here at Notinhalloffame.com are slowly generating the 50 of each major North American sports team.  That being said, we have existing Top 50 lists out and we always consistently look to update them when we can and based on necessity.  As such, we are very happy to present our pre-2022 revision of our top 50 New York Yankees. 2022 feels a lot like 2021. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Ronnie Spector died today from cancer at the age of 78. There were a lot of girl groups in the 60s, but none of them exuded the sexiness of Spector, the leader of the Ronettes.  Under the guidance of her eventual husband, Phil Spector, the Ronettes had a three-year run of hits, most notably with the 1963 smash, “Be My Baby”.  Ronnie married Phil in 1968, but the relationship became abusive, so much so, that Phil kept his wife as a virtual prisoner in their home.  They would divorce in…
A significant retirement happened in Baseball as Jon Lester is calling it a career. A talented southpaw with a devastating cutter, Lester began his career with the Red Sox in 2006, where he went to three All-Star Games and helped Boston win the 2007 World Series.  After a brief stop in Oakland, Lester signed with the Cubs, where he went to two more All-Star Games and was the runner-up for the Cy Young in 2016.  That year he led Chicago to their first World Series in over a century, winning the NLCS MVP along the way.  Lester concluded his career with Washington and…
As we await tonight’s National Championship Game between Alabama and Georgia, the College Football Hall of Fame announced the 21-man Class of 2022.  This year, 18 players and three Coaches were chosen. Players: LaVar Arrington.  Linebacker, Penn State, 1997-99.  Arrington was a product of “Linebacker U” under Joe Paterno, and in 1999 he was so dominant that he was ninth in Heisman voting, and won the Chuck Bednarik Award and Dick Butkus Award.  He also was named the Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Year.  The two-time All-American went on to play in the NFL for the Washington Redskins, earning three Pro Bowls. RIP: Don Maynard

We have lost another football legend today. Former New York Jets Wide Receiver, Don Maynard, passed away today at the age of 86. A college star at Texas Western (the future UTEP), Maynard was taken by the New York Giants in the draft, playing for them sparingly as a rookie, to the point where he left the team for Hamilton of the Canadian Football League the season after.  In his third professional year, Maynard returned to New York City, but this time with the Titans of the upstart American Football League. RIP: Ralph Neely

We lost another great one, as it was announced today that former Dallas Cowboys star, Ralph Neely, passed away at the age of 78 An All-American at Oklahoma, Neely was drafted in the second round in 1965 by the Baltimore Colts, who traded his rights to Dallas.  The Offensive Lineman was chosen for his first First Team All-Pro in 1967, which would lead to two more right after.  Also, a two-time Pro Bowl recipient, Neely, helped the Cowboys win Super Bowl VI and XII, and he would start 168 of his 172 Games.  He would be named to the 1960s All-Decade Team,…

RIP: Dan Reeves

Days after we lost Hall of Fame Coach, John Madden, we lost another great coach, as Dan Reeves passed away at the age of 77. A Quarterback at the University of South Carolina, Dan Reeves would play eight seasons at Running Back for the Dallas Cowboys, accumulating 3,683 Yards with 42 Touchdowns.  He would also win a Super Bowl (VI) with the Cowboys. Immediately after he retired, Reeves went into coaching, winning a second ring (XII) as an Assistant Coach for Dallas.  Reeves’ work with the Cowboys landed him a job as Denver’s Head Coach in 1981, and he would lead them…

The Basketball world lost a legend as Hall of Fame inductee, Sam Jones, passed away today at the age of 88. Playing at North Carolina Central, Jones was not highly recruited on the NBA level, but Red Auerbach took a chance on him after being told by his scouts that this was, in fact, the best player in the state.  The gamble proved fruitful as the versatile Jones would prove to be one of the best clutch shooters of his era, so much so, that he was nicknamed "Mr. Clutch."
