A significant retirement has taken place in the world of baseball as Ryan Braun announced his retirement. Braun has not played this season after being unable to find a new home when the Brewers declined to exercise the option on his contract. Debuting in 2007 for Milwaukee, the only team he ever played for, Braun was an instant star, winning the American League Rookie of the Year and subsequently the Slugging Title.  Over the next five years, Braun was one of the top sluggers in the National League, going to the All-Star Game in all of those campaigns, all of which…
On the eve of the first Sunday of the 2021 NFL Season, the sport lost one of its great as former Minnesota Viking, Mick Tingelhoff, passed away at the age of 81. Undrafted in 1962 from Nebraska, Tingelhoff took over as the starting Center for the Vikings, and he never missed a game in 240 contests, starting every one of them.  The former Cornhusker began a six-year streak of Pro Bowls in 1964, with five of them earning him a First Team All-Pro Selection.   Minnesota retired his number 53, and named him to their Ring of Honor.  In our most recent list…

Yes, we know that this is taking a while! As many of you know, we here at Notinhalloffame.com are slowly generating the 50 of each major North American sports team.  We have a new one to unveil today, that of the Cleveland Browns.  Formed in 1946 by Paul Brown, the Browns were an inaugural team in the All-American Football Conference.  Cleveland was an undisputed power in the new football league, winning the four Championships in the league’s existence.  The AAFC merged with the NFL in 1950, and to the shock of the stalwarts, Cleveland won the 1950 NFL Championship. The Browns remained a…
Yes, we know that this is taking a while! As many of you know, we here at Notinhalloffame.com are slowly generating the 50 of each major North American sports team.  We have a new one to unveil today, that of the Tennessee Titans.  An original team in the American Football League, the Tennessee Titans, began their existence as the Houston Oilers.   The Oilers were the first power of the league, winning the first two Championships and losing the third title game.  As the AFL merged with the NFL, the Oilers had flashes of greatness but were unable to make the Super Bowl.…

A week before the 2021 NFL Season is to begin, we now know that five-time Pro Bowl Defensive Lineman, Jurrell Casey, will not be among the players.  Casey, 31, retired today, after a ten-year career. Playing his college ball at USC, Casey arrived in the NFL to Tennessee as a Third Round Pick in 2011.  Casey became an immediate starter at Right Defensive Tackle, and was arguably robbed of a Pro Bowl in 2013, a year he had a career-high 10.5 Sacks.  He would finally get that first Pro Bowl in 2015, which would lead to four more in succession. A Titan for…

The Pro Football Hall of Fame has announced that Art McNally is the Contributor Nominee for the Class of 2022. McNally is considered to be the “Father of Modern Officiating”, and if elected would be the first official to enter Canton.  Considering how important the officiating crew is in football in relation to other sports, it is surprising that nobody in stripes has yet to be honored with a bust McNally began his NFL career in 1959 as a field judge, and would be a referee from 1960 to 1968.  Afterward, McNally would become the supervisor of officials, and he modernized the…
Today is a special day for those of us who are in tune with the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Canton, Ohio based institution has announced their Finalists for the Senior and Coach sections, and while we love the selections, the choices are not we thought. The Senior candidate is Cliff Branch, who while we believe is a worthy inductee, is not one we thought, based on what we heard.  Reports indicated that it might be Ken Riley or Randy Gradishar, both of whom are worthy, but Branch is not a usurper in the march to Canton. Branch is currently ranked…
