67. Akon

For the most part, we don’t really have an issue with Akon.  However, we can’t fathom how this steaming pile was his first real hit.

Samples will always be a part of Hip Hop, but sampling Bobby Vinton’s “Mr. Lonely” (which is quite the annoying sappy song itself) and speeding it up Alvin and Chipmunks style created a potpourri of ear splitting garbage that inexplicably charted.  A song like this makes us think that you can sample anything and turn it into a hit that dumb white teenagers will eat up if they think it is cool.
