That performance made Williams a permanent fixture as a starter for the Nets and he in his injury plagued 1996/97 campaign he had 13.5 Rebounds and 13.4 Points per Game. Williams’ tenacious rebounding skills were on display in a full season in 1997/98 where he would lead the NBA in Offensive Rebounds, was second in boards per Game and was chosen for the All-Star Game. He was putting up similar numbers in 98/99 but he broke his leg in an accidental collision with his teammate (Stephon Marbury) and he was out for the year. That injury would result in a plate and five screws being screwed into his leg and he was unable to come back to the game resulting in his retirement shortly afterwards.
Sadly, for Jayson Williams he will always be most known for his off-court issues namely for committing manslaughter when he accidently shot a limo driver and tried to cover it up.
