We remembered one of Jim Neidhart’s last WWF appearances when Shawn Michaels courted him to join DX. He told Neidhart about how he used to carry Bret Hart and he became overlooked. This may have been a scripted line, but in the early years of the Hart Foundation, it was actually true.
As Bret Hart struggled with promos, Neidhart was the charismatic, slightly demented mouth of the team. His huge chest, and underrated wrestling skills were a fascinating match with his pointed goatee and cackling laugh. At his best in a tag team, Neidhart’s star diminished greatly when Bret Hart’s career took off, and though the Anvil had other partners, he became a footnote rather than a star. Neidhart would be on and off the mid card for the next few years often struggling to overcome his association to the Hit Man. His body of work may not have been Hall of Fame material, but his tag team of the Hart Foundation may be. Could it be enough for him to get inducted?
