69. Alanis Morissette

When people first heard Alanis it was as a teeny-bop pop princess in the early 1990’s, though that was predominantly only in Canada.

When the rest of the world heard Alanis, she brought back her last name (Morissette) and delivered one of the most successful albums of all-time and became the voice of millions of women.

The 90’s brought angst (it was already there in music) to a more popular level than ever before, but Alanis Morissette showcased anger, but in an introspective way that did not come off whiny.  It was a new form of female empowerment, and her music came across more as a sonic diary of her trials and tribulations and it struck a chord with women everywhere.

Should the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame be serious about inducting more women into the Hall, Alanis Morissette’s inclusion would receive little objection from the masses.
