With the exception of one game for the Montreal Canadians, Worters played his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates and the New York Americans. In his first year in New York, Worters captured the Hart Trophy, where he had his career best GAA of 1.15, leading the Americans to respectability after being the NHL’s doormat. Two years after, Worters would win the Vezina Trophy as the league’s top Goaltender. Worters may never have won a Stanley Cup, but in his defense he was not blessed with the same talent around him that other top Goalies had. It can only be imagined what collection of hardware, he would have accumulated had he played for even marginally better teams.
