The 8th Overall Pick of the 2016 Amateur Draft made the Colorado Rockies in 2017, where as a rookie he went 11-11 and was seventh in Rookie of the Year voting.  That wasn’t bad, but it was his 2018 year that turned heads around the baseball world.

In 2018, he had a record of 18-7 with an ERA of 2.85.  Throwing 173 Strikeouts this year, he was fourth in Cy Young voting, fourth in bWAR for Pitchers, and fifth in both ERA and Win Probability Added.

As good as he was in 2018, his 2019 campaign was a disaster resulting in a demotion to AAA.  His Rockies record of 3-11 with a 6.73 ERA puts him at the crossroads entering 2022, but he responded with back-to-back respectable years, but his last two seasons has seen his ERA baloon over five.  Freeland is still with Colorado, but his 2018 campaign seems so long ago.
