Not in Hall of Fame News

Regular visitors of Notinhalloffame.com know that we are slowly working on the top 50 of every major team in the NHL, NBA, NFL and MLB.  Once that is done, we intend to look at how each team honor their past players, coaches and executives.  As such, it is news to us that the Minnesota Twins have announced that three new men, Dan Gladden, Cesar Tovar and Ron Gardenhire have been inducted into their franchise Hall of Fame. Gladden played for Minnesota from 1987 to 1991, where the Outfielder accumulated 661 Hits with 116 Stolen Bases and a .268 Batting Average.  A member of…

RIP: Meat Loaf

Meat Loaf, the charismatic singer who had one of the biggest albums of all time in “Bat Out of Hell” passed away at the age of 74.  No cause of death was given. Born Marvin Lee Aday, Meat Loaf first became known in 1975 from his appearance in the iconic cult film, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Two years later, Meat Loaf collaborated with Jim Steinman, to create the theatrical and powerful, “Bat Out of Hell”, which remains one of the most sold albums ever.  Few people who worked on the album, with the exception of Meat Loaf and Steinman understood what…
It is the end of an era in Pittsburgh. Following the Steelers’ playoff defeat to Kansas City, the time to debate in earnest the Hall of Fame candidacy of Ben Roethlisberger has begun. The Quarterback has the statistical make-up for a Canton bust, even in this inflated era.   Roethlisberger is also a two-time leader in Passing Yards, and went to six Pro Bowls.  He leaves with 64,088 Passing Yards (fifth all-time), 418 Touchdown Passes (eighth all-time) with an Approximate Value of 208 (14th all-time).  The biggest metric that a Quarterback is based on, Super Bowl wins, is also on Roethlisberger’s resume with two.…

2022 feels a lot like 2021. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Ronnie Spector died today from cancer at the age of 78. There were a lot of girl groups in the 60s, but none of them exuded the sexiness of Spector, the leader of the Ronettes.  Under the guidance of her eventual husband, Phil Spector, the Ronettes had a three-year run of hits, most notably with the 1963 smash, “Be My Baby”.  Ronnie married Phil in 1968, but the relationship became abusive, so much so, that Phil kept his wife as a virtual prisoner in their home.  They would divorce in…
A significant retirement happened in Baseball as Jon Lester is calling it a career. A talented southpaw with a devastating cutter, Lester began his career with the Red Sox in 2006, where he went to three All-Star Games and helped Boston win the 2007 World Series.  After a brief stop in Oakland, Lester signed with the Cubs, where he went to two more All-Star Games and was the runner-up for the Cy Young in 2016.  That year he led Chicago to their first World Series in over a century, winning the NLCS MVP along the way.  Lester concluded his career with Washington and…

RIP: Don Maynard

We have lost another football legend today. Former New York Jets Wide Receiver, Don Maynard, passed away today at the age of 86. A college star at Texas Western (the future UTEP), Maynard was taken by the New York Giants in the draft, playing for them sparingly as a rookie, to the point where he left the team for Hamilton of the Canadian Football League the season after.  In his third professional year, Maynard returned to New York City, but this time with the Titans of the upstart American Football League. Maynard would become the team’s top Wide Receiver, exceeding 1,000…
