On these pages we are always discussing artists who have been ignored by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We are steadily building a consensus of artists who we believe should be in. Several of the the same issues that the committee has in deciding we are alos discusiing primarily definitions of what rock is and the ambiguous criteria they are using. With this in mind I have developed a list of the artists I believe do not deserve to be enshrined IN the Rock Hall. Here it is: 10. Miles Davis (2006)-He is not rock and ironically this was the year the Sex Pistols turned down enshrinement with the famous Piss Stain quote. 9. The Pretenders (2005)-Pretenders are a good way of describing the highly overrated band. Only because they have a girl lead singer are they even considered! 8. The Stooges (2010)- Ok I get the whole Velvet Underground thing to a certain degree but the Stooges. Come on. Sell an album or two and then we will consider you. 7. Leonard Cohen (2008)-yes one of his songs has become a classic due to a animated movie and American idol but that song isn't even him singing and the rest of his career is mainly as a songwriter not as a performer. 6. Darlene Love (2011)-Really. I still have no idea why she is even considered? Does anybody? Her best song is a christmas song for goodness sake. 5. Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five (2007)- In one of the comittees most agregious errors they bumped these guys over the Dave Clark Five even though they got less votes using a technicality. First is rap really rock? and second if it is this group should not be the first represenetatives of the genre. 4. Little Willie John (1996)- Who? 3. Brenda Lee (2002)- Come on! She's a pop and country music singer. Singing a christmas song with rock in the title does not make you a rock and roll singer. 2. Bobby Womack (2009)- Good songwriter but a couple of hits and being friendly with the committee should not get you in. Almost a joke he was even considered. 1. Percy Sledge (2005)- Wow. Is he the representative for the all the one hit wonders? Then where is Looking glass? or Dexy's Midnight Runners? or Soft Cell? or Tommy James? Wait he had dozens of hits in the same time frame as the aformentioned Sledge. Didn't he?

The Stooges are a hugely, hugely influential act. If you understand the induction of The Velvet Undeground, then The Stooges shouldn't raise an eyebrow.Miles Davis should have been inducted as an Early Influence. Coltrane as well.My Personal 10:Dave Clark FiveDellsNeil DiamondThe HolliesLittle Anthony & The ImperialsJohn MellencampMoonglowsBonnie RaittPercy SledgeZZ TopGave Darlene Love a free-pass since her work with Phil Spector certainly was innovative and influential, even if her discography as a whole doesn't add up to much. The acts I listed above are ones that are oft-forgotten and barely influential nowadays, if ever (Dave Clark Five, Moonglows, Dells) or simply didn't do anything all that creative (Mellencamp, Raitt, ZZ Top). Sledge is undeniably the worst inductee in The Hall of Fame, a choice that clearly is a step below the rest of the head-scratchers.

Also, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five got in fairly. Voters are mailed ballots and then must return them on time, just like for the Emmys or Oscars or whathaveyou. I think it's kind of funny that a bunch of old fogeys sent their ballots in late and that the bulk of them voted for Dave Clark Five and not Grandmaster Flash.

What about Raitt's guitar work? I don't know, kind of grasping at straws, she's an awards darling who they love because she overcame her addictions. Never have really seen what made her special, myself.Dave Clark isn't a selection I agreed with, but it's a better one than the Hollies, I think. British acts who flourished in the mid-60's are a bit over-honored.

I'm going to have to agree that Percy Sledge is the weakest link. I went to IMDB to see if some sort of pop culture reference magically influenced the voters the year he was inducted. The only place "when a man loves a woman" shows up was on the Simpsons that year.Maybe the voters were big Simpsons fans? :p

Totally with Clayton on this one. If we could kick one artist out, Sledge is at the top of our list!
